What is Liturgy?

"The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; at the same time it is the fount from which all her power flows."
(Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy.10)

What is liturgy?:
A living mystery, it is always more than we can say, it eludes any easy definition.

Liturgy is:
The public worship carried out by the People of God, the Mystical Body of Christ, the Church.

Liturgy is:
The work of the people.
At Spirit of Christ, you will often hear "liturgy" used as another word for "Mass." Father might say in the announcements, "..such and such a meeting will take place after the 8:30 liturgy."

Liturgy is a word we use for many of the rituals of the church; eg. The Rite of Infant Baptism celebrated on a Sunday afternoon is a liturgy; a Wedding, with or without a Mass is a liturgy; The Blessing of Animals is a liturgy.

Liturgical Ministries

"Full, conscious, active participation"
Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy. Such participation by the Christian people as "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a redeemed people" (1 Peter 2:9) is their right and duty by reason of their baptism. (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy. 14.)
